Florida requires a Registered Contractor, Certified Contractor, and Specialty License in order to do construction work. A contractor license is required in Florida before bidding on any projects. To become a licensed contractor, candidates are required to pass the Florida plumbers exam and the business and finance exam. Also:
- An individual applying for the certification examination must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants must document at least four years of experience in the trade.
- Applicants are also required to provide a credit report and financial statement that is no more than 12 months old.
- A net worth of $2,500 - $20,000 (depending on classification) is required.
A "plumbing contractor" means a contractor whose contracting business consists of the execution of contracts requiring the experience, financial means, knowledge, and skill to install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, or, when not prohibited by law, design plumbing.
